THE HAGUE, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Ajax and Chelsea have agreed on the transfer of Jorrel Hato to the Premier League club, both sides announced Sunday.
The 19-year-old left-footed defender signed a deal with Chelsea through mid-2032. His contract at Ajax had been set to run until 2028. The clubs agreed on a transfer fee of 44.18 million euros (51.12 million U.S. dollars).
Hato joined Ajax's youth academy in 2018 and made his first-team debut five years later. He went on to make 111 appearances for the senior side, scoring four goals. Last season, the Dutch international was named Eredivisie Talent of the Year.
He joins Joao Pedro (Brighton & Hove Albion), Jamie Gittens (Borussia Dortmund), Liam Delap (Ipswich Town) and Estevao (Palmeiras) among Chelsea's most notable signings of the current transfer window. Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup last month. ■
