HANOI, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday called for breakthroughs in the semiconductor industry to help achieve the country's economic growth target of 8.3 to 8.5 percent this year.
Chairing a meeting of the national steering committee on semiconductor industry development, Chinh urged concerted nationwide efforts to accelerate the implementation of both the semiconductor development strategy and the human resources development program.
He emphasized the need for Vietnam to gain the capability to independently design, manufacture, and test a number of essential semiconductor chips by no later than 2027.
Under the semiconductor development strategy issued by the Vietnamese government in September 2024, the country aims to train at least 50,000 semiconductor engineers and attract 170 foreign direct investment projects in the sector by 2030. ■
